If you call yourself a martial arts fan but haven’t seen the new Warner Bros ‘Ninja Assassin’ movie you need to run to the store now and pick
it up. This is a truly classic ninja and martial arts movie that is sure to become legendary. A great blast from the past of inspiring martial arts movies that have motivated millions to take up life long martial arts training. Ninja Assassin is directed by James McTeigue and stars Rain as the main character and most talented ninja. Rain also starred in Speed Racer and is also a music artist, however no doubt this movie will change his career dramatically, hopefully meaning more great martial arts movies to come. The story is based around Rain’s character Raizo who along with many others is an orphan taken in and trained by a ninja master to become part of an elite team of mercenary ninjas, the rest you will have to see for yourself…
The training in the movie should provide great inspiration for turning up your workouts a notch and to stop whining when you get tired. The great old school style training involves a lot of pain and toughening up, including having your feet slashed if you do not walk light enough. Sparring is great, including sparring blindfolded using real weapons. Setting a new standard and challenge in training, Rain performs vertical push-ups with his hands holding all his weight on a bed of nine inch nails.
Though even more impressive is the incredibly effective use of traditional ninja weapons against modern western weapons including a fully
armed SWAT team. Most notably these include throwing stars which are used with deadly precision and a version of the ninja shoge. The ninja shoge is a blade attached to the end of a long rope or chain which can be used to entangle an opponents sword or as a stabbing and slicing weapon. The incredible skill shown is this movie will definitely make these weapons a hot commodity, though trying to replicate those moves at home, is probably really dangerous and not a good idea without professional training.
