We had someone write in and ask a question and thought it would be a good one for our martial arts blog here.
The Question was:
“How come fighters hit heavy bags harder than they hit someone in the ring or octagon?”
The Answer is:
The most important difference between the two scenarios is that in boxing and mma trainingheavy bags don’t fight back! When you are punching someone in a ring or octagon who can move and also reverse your positioning very quickly if you make the wrong move you have to always maintain balance, both physically and mentally. If the fighters were to put everything they had into a punch their opponent could quickly use their unbalance as leverage and reverse positioning so they are now on top.
Also, on another note fighters realize they cannot spend all their energy on one flurry of punches or kicks.
