Becoming a great martial artist is about far more than just packing a great punch. Just ask Kimbo Slice. Becoming a true champion in the octagon takes dedication to training and learning techniques, building strength and developing an elite level of conditioning as well as strategy. However a huge part of the equation is diet. Without the right diet you will find it much more difficult to achieve and realize results from your gym workouts and cardio.
In fact the best mixed martial artists know that getting to the top requires as much dedication to diet as it takes in training time. Great fighters must stay on top of the latest developments and medical discoveries for foods and nutrition. Not only knowing what foods are good to eat and which ones need to to be avoided, but knowing which foods can be combined or eaten within certain times of each other, knowing how much and how often to eat and drink and developing the discipline to stick to what is best for them. There is definitely a lot of science to be learned in the mission to become an elite fighter in peak shape and it is a constantly evolving process that needs to be constantly built on and tweaked.

In the last post on what to expect when beginning Karate, we covered what it takes to begin Karate up to the point of walking through the doors of the
Karate school for the first time. It was also mentioned that what the student does next will either make or break their martial arts journey to learn this fighting style called Karate.
So, next the student must develop and maintain a “Can Do” attitude. Yes, this sounds simple but the student needs to know that their goal is already done once they set their minds to do it. All they have to do know is go out and physically do the work and this will be that ‘can do’ attitude!
Karate has been defined as the ‘empty hand’ which means that it is a discipline to be learned through the body and not with external objects. It is important when in Karate that the student trains their body and more importantly to move in the way of ‘Karate’ not just go through the motions. So, Karate students get a lot of physical exercise, but there are other benefits of Karate besides just exercising. Some of the most common are:

You may be asking yourself, “So, what should I expect with the first Karate class?” To begin with MOST martial arts schools don’t begin by beating up their new
students for initiation anymore, so you should be safe. However they will expect you to have an open mind and be willing to learn when your instructor is talking. Karate has been studied and practiced for thousands of years and by hundreds of thousands of martial arts students. Throughout the world there a various blends and styles of Karate but they all came from a single source, and that source began in Okinawa, Japan.
The place where the students study and train in Karate is called the ‘Dojo’ which translates to the ‘training area’. However, it isn’t required that Karate has to be studied and practiced in an official building style Dojo. There have been many excellent dojo’s which were made from garages, basements, and backyards. So, it is more about what is done with it than what it is that makes a Dojo.

Today we are reviewing the Kids Martial Arts Uniform with Lil’ Dragon. This uniform is very well made to take on the kid
punishment it will have to endure! There are two dragon on this gi one large print on the back and one smaller image of the dragon the child’s upper left chest. These are placed to leave room for the patches that your martial arts school will have sewn onto the uniform for school identity and martial arts rankings.
The fabric that is used to make these karate or taekwondo uniforms is made to wash and wear so you won’t have to take it to the cleaners or iron it yourself before each martial arts class. The pants include both an elastic waistband with an inside drawstring for added security. The belt with this uniform is also comprised from a poly/cotton blend so it will be strong and durable along with other kids Karate gear.
