Potential Fights After WEC 53

Thursday’s WEC 53 brought a spectacular close to an organization that was known for action packed battles. While the fighters are being brought under the UFC banner, many new challenges and potential fights are available. While the obvious battles wait; such as that to unify the lightweight title, here are some others that would excite the fans and introduce stars of the WEC to the mainstream mixed martial arts fan.

Get On The List!

Donald Cerrone versus Cole Miller
Donald Cerrone wasted very little time pointing out whom he would like to face in the UFC as he set his sights on lightweight fighter Cole Miller. Cerrone had just submitted Chris Horodecki with a triangle and was ready to move on. A Cerrone versus Miller matchup would sure to be an action packed battle as both fighters are well versed on both their feet and the mat. Another aspect is that both of these fighters have already begun taking shots at each other via their Twitter pages. Miller offered to “remove one of your arms” while Cerrone simply replied “bring that (stuff) on.” If these two fighters bring as much intensity to the fight as they will the pre-fight hype, fans will not be able to sit down.

Benson Henderson versus Clay Guida
Benson Henderson lost his WEC lightweight title in what some people would vote the fight of 2010. Although this fight will be remembered as a coming out show for Anthony Pettis; Henderson showed the heart and constant pressure that has made him a champion. As he joins the UFC one man comes to mind that shows the same intensity and effort as Henderson night in and out: Clay Guida. Guida has turned his fortunes around after two tough losses. A matchup with Henderson would be a sure fire test of wills as both of these fighters only know one direction and that’s straight ahead.

Kamal Shalorus versus Tyson Griffin
Kamal Shalorus could be a real wild card in the lightweight division. His wrestling skills give him the ability to take down anyone at that weight class and his striking is continuing to improve. Combine that with what seems to be a solid chin and Shalorus could potentially pose trouble to any fighter. Tyson Griffin would be a tough test for anyone stepping into the UFC. Even though he has come under hard times in the cage, Griffin is better than what his recent record has shown. This matchup would show exactly who should take their place among the elites in the UFC’s most stacked division.

2011 has the potential to create many game changing fights within the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
