Strikeforce Sets the Table

StrikeforceLogoStrikeforce has confirmed the matchup between Middleweight title holder Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza and Robbie Lawler. Earlier this month Lawler destroyed Matt Lindland with a crushing first round knockout. Lawler is a former EliteXC Middleweight Champion but that belt was relinquished when the organization folded. Souza is undefeated in Strikeforce since his debut in 2009. The Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt has victories over the likes of Tim Kennedy, Matt Lindland and Joey Villasenor.

This fight has been rumored to occur during Strikeforce’s January 29th card. Additional fights that have not yet been confirmed by the organization include a title defense by Welterweight Champion Nick Diaz, Hershel Walker back in action, a matchup between Jason Miller and Tim Kennedy and a heavyweight confrontation between Antonio Silva and Fedor Emelianenko.

Another Match Announced for DREAM Dynamite!! and HD Net have confirmed the matchup of Tatsuya Mizuno and Sergei Khanritonov for the December 31st DREAM event in Saitama, Japan. Mizuno reached the finals of this year’s light heavyweight tournament where he was soundly defeated by Gegard Mousasi. Mizuno’s recent victories include Melvin Manhoef and Rafael Rodriguez. Khanritonov comes into this event with a resume that includes a victory over the current Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion, Allistar Overeem and Fabricio Werdum.

Two Additional Fights added to UFC Live 3
The UFC has announced two more fights that are set to take place on the organizations third live event to be featured on Versus. Brazilian Top Team training partners Rousimar Palhares and Alexandre Ferreira will face each other in the Octagon. Palhares is coming off a first round TKO at the hands of Nate Marquardt earlier this year. Ferreira is also trying to get back on the winning track after being defeated by Vladimir Matyushenko at UFC 122. Both of these fighters are submission specialists with a combined 25 victories by tap out during their careers.

UFC bantamweights will also participate on the Versus event as Takeya Mizugaki will fight Francisco Rivera. Mizugaki was last seen at WEC 52 in which he was quickly decimated by Uriah Faber. Rivera was also featured during that event where he was knocked out by Erik Koch with a first round head kick.

The UFC has not announced a venue for their third event on the Versus network. However, a number of big name fights have been announced for the event which includes: Diego Sanchez versus Martin Kampmann, Alessio Sakara versus Maiquel Goncalves, and Mark Munoz against C.B. Dollaway.
