Bellator Fighting Championship has secured the rights to one of MMA’s veterans. Riggs has performed on the biggest scenes in American mixed martial arts; at one time being employed by the Ultimate Fighting Championship and Strikeforce. According to a report by Sherdog.com, Riggs will make his promotional debut during the upcoming “season” of Bellator events.
Joe “Diesel” Riggs was released from Strikeforce in August after defeating Louis Taylor at Strikeforce Challengers 10. Since that time he has earned another victory over Trent Thorne at King of the Cage 48 in November. Riggs has amassed 34 wins in his MMA career, many of which were due to stoppage. Sixteen of his wins came by knockout while 15 others have come by submission. His resume includes wins over other MMA veterans such as Joe Doerksen, Nick Diaz, Chris Lytle and even referee Herb Dean. Riggs is also a former World Extreme Cagefighting Middleweight champion.
Riggs is looking to challenge himself against a group of middleweights in Bellator that include Hector Lombard and Bryan Baker.
“There are some really good middleweights for me to test myself against,” said Riggs, “and it was one of the reasons I came to Bellator.”
