Strikeforce has officially announced added fights to the March 5th event which include a well-anticipated championship matchup.
Current number one contender, Miesha Tate, will receive her shot against current Strikeforce Women’s Lightweight Champion Marloes Coenen. This fight has been confirmed according to various MMA news outlets.
Tate became the number one contender when she defeated Hitomi Akano and Maiju Kujala during the women’s tournament at Strikeforce Challengers 10 last August. Seven of her 11 wins have come by stoppage, while she has only been stopped once, early in her career.
Submission grappling specialist Coenen has also been very successful during her career. She won the women’s title from Sarah Kaufman in October of this past year; coming off a TKO defeat at the hands of the dominant Cristiane Santos. During her fighting career, Coenen has notched 13 submission victories.
Strikeforce also made a change to another planned matchup for the March 5th card. Instead of facing off against Jason “Mayhem” Miller, Tim Kennedy will now fight Luke Rockhold. For unexplained reasons, Miller was removed from the card and replaced with the 7-1 Rockhold. Kennedy is coming off of a loss to Renaldo Souza while Rockhold has won six straight confrontations.
