ufc ranking1. Mauricio Rua knocked out unhittable Machida

The former PRIDE stars owns one of the last defeats on Alistair Overeem’s record, made his debut in the UFC against Forrest Griffin September 2007, and got choked out.  He didn’t fight again for nearly 16 months and many fans were worried that he left his skills in Japan.  In the Mark Coleman fight, he looked rusty, but won by TKO in the third round.  He knocked out Chuck Liddell in the first round and was ready for a title shot.  He lost by unanimous decision in one of the worst decisions I have ever seen to Lyoto Machida.  The Ultimate Fighting Championships agreed and gave him a rematch, where he knocked out Machida in the first round to win the title.  We haven’t seen him fight since, but he’s the top guy in the top company in the world.

UFC 127 Preview:

I did a fight preview for this card earlier UFC 127 this week, but the Michael Bisping vs. Jorge Rivera fight has gotten my interest in a big way.  Rivera called out Bisping the night he was supposed to face Alessio Sakara, only to have Sakara pull out just hours before the card.  In a video with kurase.se, Rivera said, “I really want this next fight man.  I not only want the fight, I want to f*** him up.”

If you look back on the history of the Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight division, it was consistently one of the worst as far as UFC ranking ufc rankingweight classes in the company.  If you asked me a couple months back, I would have said it was in the same spot due to injuries and other factors.  The announcement that Junior Dos Santos would fight Brock Lesnar after coaching in The Ultimate Fighter brings the division back, even after losing its champion to injury.
