The mixed martial arts community is a fast paced world that has a constant stream of breaking news stories. Here are some of the more important factors that have been released over the last week.

Get On The List!

Hendo versus Fedor Emerging
Negotiations have begun that will place Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Champion Dan Henderson in what some will consider a “dream” matchup against Fedor Emelianenko. After Saturday’s Diaz versus Daley card, Strikeforce executive Scott Coker, discussed that the bout may occur sometime this summer.

Emelianenko considered retirement after losing to Antonio Silva, while some experts suggested he should reinvent himself as a light heavyweight. This fight however will go down at an undetermined catch weight.

Henderson is coming off a big knockout victory over Rafael Cavalcante. This fight would not be for the Light Heavyweight title.

Askern Getting Serious
After dominating Nick Thompson, Bellator welterweight champion Ben Askern has announced that he will move his training came to Roufussport which is run by acclaimed trainer Duke Roufus. Roufussport has helped build the career of UFC lightweight contender Anthony Pettis, Pat Barry and Erik Koch.

Askern will make his first title defense when a new contender emerges from the Jay Hieron versus Rick Hawn matchup. Both of these fighters made it to the finals of the season four Bellator tournament during the last few weeks of action.

UFC Rio Main Event
Last year the UFC announced that it will return to Brazil, which is considered by many to be the birthplace of today’s modern MMA community. With the return of the world’s largest organization, the main event has been speculated.

A title bout between UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva and current number one contender Yushin Okami is speculated to be the main event. Okami is the last person to have his hand raised when facing off against the Spider and that was in 2006. That bout came by disqualification when Silva landed a stiff upkick to a kneeling Okami; leaving him unable to continue the fight.

Since that time Silva has won 14 straight fights which include 13 while in the UFC and eight title defenses. Okami is riding a three-fight win streak that includes such fighters as Nate Marquardt and Mark Munoz. This fight has yet to be officially announced by the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

That’s also one thing I really notice, how when it comes to MMA, it`s not just the moves that are fast, but the news as well, sometimes even faster than celebrity gossip haha.
