MMA Shorts

The thing that you need most are your MMA shorts, and similar to gloves, there are many options for shorts. Shorts come in many styles for those that like to be discreet or those who go in for bolder statements. A few of the most popular companies are Venum, Hayabusa, and Bad Boy, and some things to keep watch for are splits on the legs and under panel, thus giving you more flexibility. When looking for quality MMA shorts you should expect to spend in the range of $50 to $80.

Rashguards

MMA rash guards are great for any form of martial arts training. An MMA rash guard will keep your body temperature up while protecting you from ring worm and staph.

These two afflictions happen often in wrestling-based sports, where it’s warm and humid like a training gym. Rash Guards, created from a mixed lycra material, is stretchy, fits snug against the body and comes in both long and short sleeve. When they are worn beneath a BJJ GI (see following section), they aid in the reduction and prevention of friction burns. When looking for quality rashguard you should expect to spend in the range of $30 to $60.

MMA T-Shirts

MMA shirts are one of those ‘must have’ items when you are training, and luckily you will be able to use them before, during or after training, so that you can use it more. The prices of a MMA t-shirts like the American Fighter t-shirts are very reasonable now. Rates for different mixed martial arts companies are very competitive, as MMA has become mainstream.  You can get a great looking t-shirts for under $40.

Similar to shorts, you have many choices and it all depends on what you really like for buying t-shirts. For simpler designs, you are going to want to choose Venum or Jaco, but for rather complicated or bold designs, the better choice would be Hayabus or Tapout.

BJJ GI

Even though you may not need this right away depending on the martial arts style you begin with at some point you will begin training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and when you do you will need a BJJ Gi.  When you start training in BJJ you will need a BJJ Gi which are very heavy uniforms and made to withstand a lot of pulling and tugging unlike other uniforms like you see in Taekwondo. A good double weave uniform that will last about 2 years will typically cost between $80-$110. The top quality Gi’s have what they call pearl weave which adds a strength you will need in your Gi. The shrinkage problem in the gold weaves are overcome by the pearl weaves and are also light in weight and strong, Hence are the new addition to BJJ GI in rip stop trousers. Some people prefer these trousers because they are light, yet durable while others feel that they cling too tightly to the legs.
