“Lets be clear here about something. If you get into Mixed Martial Arts, then you know what to expect. I couldn’t be anymore obvious and straight forward with that statement even if I had competed myself… Oh, wait, I HAVE!”

Strikeforce: Is It Still Business as Usual?

Posted on 19 October 2011 by Tony Thacker

Written By: Aiden Rudd

“When Strikeforce was purchased by the UFC’s parent company Zuffa LLC in March, Strikeforce chairman Scott Coker, has professed that it is ‘Business as Usual’ for the companies. Strikeforce was still to operate as a separate promotion, it would still co-promote with M1-Global to keep the whole Fedor fiasco from collapsing. However, 7 months later is that statement still realistic?”

With several big attractions defecting to the UFC in search of bigger fights and even bigger paydays, can Strikeforce still operate as a ‘Major Promotion’? With talent such as Nick Diaz, Jason Miller, Alistair Overeem and Dan Henderson trickling down to the UFC, the promotion’s increasingly obsolete titles are for the large part vacant. As out of the 5 male weight divisions, only two have currently got a title holder. Luke Rockhold recently defeated ‘Jacare’ Souza to capture the Middleweight title, and Gilbert Melendez, who has been documented as being unsettled at the promotion’s lack of legitimate contenders to his Lightweight title, that he is currently preparing to defend for the 3rd time in December against Jorge Masvidal.

Is Dana White Right to Call ‘The Answer’ 2nd Best P4P?

Posted on 18 October 2011 by Tony Thacker

Written by: Aiden Rudd

For several years now, Anderson Silva has been given the title of Pound for Pound best fighter in the world.  Not many people are stupid enough to argue that point.  The real argument from experts and fans alike is “who is number two?”  Many people have weighed in on the argument, including recently UFC President Dana White. Georges St. Pierre, the long time UFC Welterweight Champion, has often been given the title of ‘Number 2’. But, he has come under scrutiny from fans over his last few fights, for being a boring fighter.

Discounting a corner stoppage against BJ Penn, he hasn’t finished a fight since he beat Matt Serra to regain his title in April 2008. Fedor Emelianenko has been up there but has lost three on the bounce and has been finished in two of them and was stopped by the doctor in the third. Jose Aldo has also looked less than impressive in his last two MMA fights.

For The MMA Beginner Guide: Gym, Training, and MMA Gear

Posted on 08 October 2011 by Tony Thacker

It’s amazing to think that MMA was just a baby 10 years ago. MMA has moved from a little-known sport to a billion-dollar industry. The roots of this exploding sport is found in Brazil’s Vale Tudo and Japan’s Shoot-fighting. When the Ultimate Fighting Championships came on the scene in the early 90s, spectators got to witness fighters from different styles competing with no time-limits, no weight classes, and almost no rules. Since then, the UFC has risen to the top as the premiere organization in the sport. Rounds, referees, and safety rules have been created to make MMA a safe and legitimate combat sport.
