On Saturday, April 13, 2013, The Ultimate Fighter 17 will come to a close at the Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nev. The event will feature the main event between Urijah Faber and Scott Jorgensen, as well as the UFC debuts of Miesha Tate and Cat Zingano, and a heavyweight showdown between Gabriel Gonzaga and Travis Browne.
Who do the odds makers favor just days before the event?
Urijah Faber -450 vs. Scott Jorgensen +360
Urijah Faber was the poster boy for World Extreme Cagefighting before the Ultimate Fighting Championship purchased the company. Heading into his sixth title defense of the WEC featherweight title in November 2008, Urijah Faber was 21-1 in his career. In his last 11 fights, he is just 6-5 and has lost to some of the best fighters in the sport (Mike Brown twice, Jose Aldo, Dominick Cruz, and Renan Barao). He will look to win his second straight fight, but will have to go through a fan favorite in Scott Jorgensen.
Scott Jorgensen is 14-6 in his career and is looking to improve his UFC record to 4-2. He is coming off a Fight of the Night and Submission of the Night performance against John Albert last December and will hope to stay in contention for the bantamweight title.
TUF 17 Prediction: Scott Jorgensen pulls off the upset, leaving Urijah Faber’s career in doubt.
Miesha Tate -110 vs. Cat Zingano -130
Since losing the Strikeforce bantamweight championship to Ronda Rousey, Miesha Tate has fought just once, submitting Julie Kedzie with the same move Ronda Rousey used to take away the title (Armbar). Miesha Tate has a 13-3 record in her career and is one of the most talented womens MMA in the world.
Zingano is 7-0 in her professional career and will be facing her stiffest competition to date. The Bloomfield, Colorado native has three wins via submission, three via KO/TKO and one decision win. She was the title holder in four different weight classes in the Fight to Win ad Ring of Fire promotions.
TUF 17 Prediction: I’m not ashamed to admit I don’t know a lot about Zingano, but I think she steals the victory over Miesha Tate in The Ultimate Fighter 17.
Travis Browne -320 vs. Gabriel Gonzaga +240
This heavyweight showdown will be fun to watch. Browne is 13-1-1 in his career and will be rebounding from defeat for the first time. He lost to Antonio “Big Foot” Silva via TKO in the first round in October 2012 and is now 4-1-1 in his UFC career.
Gonzaga is 14-6 in his career and could be a win or two away from competing for the UFC heavyweight title again. He is 9-5 in the UFC, including wins in his last two Octagon appearances.
TUF 17 Prediction: Gonzaga via submission in The Ultimate Fighter 17.
