Rating: +8

Positive Negative

Question: "I am 29 and I'm just now starting to take MMA and Karate, didn't really know there was a place around here until now. In Jan. my sensei will be training me every day for a boxing competition in March since he won the golden gloves twice and used to fight pro. I love these kinda sports so much! my question is though is how do you get into pro MMA for women???"
Answer: You are just a beginner, so you have a long way to go before you turn pro as a fighter. There are some people who turn pro after a few fights, but that is rare. To do well in MMA you will need to focus on learning several styles and be great at those styles, including boxing, Muay Thai, Ju-jitsu, grappling, and wrestling. You’ll also need to do a great deal of cardio and endurance training and weight lifting for power.
You are beginning the sport at an older age, which could be a negative. This is not to say that you can’t do well in MMA, but it does mean you’ll have to truly dedicate yourself to the sport and be focused and disciplined when it comes to your training and nutrition.
Once you and your trainer(s) feel you are ready for a bout, let them set one up for you. You would be better off to compete in MMA events, not boxing, because you need the experience going up against other MMA female fighters. When you establish yourself as a true MMA fighter and you have a good fight record, then you can look into getting a manager who will be able to book you for your first pro fight. How long this takes depends on a number of things: how bad you want this, your job and family obligations, your trainers, your body (beyond age, think about any serious injuries or nagging injuries you may have), and lots of luck to be positioned to get media coverage so you can start building a name.
