Dan Henderson is not only the modern day equivalent to the Running Man, he’s also as tough as any human being on the face of earth. This man can take a trouncing like no other, and often manages to rebound and snag impressive victories. Given his low-key demeanor, and I’d-share-a-beer-with-you-anytime attitude, Dan has painted himself as one of the coolest men competing in mixed martial arts today.

We’ve played witness to some stunning career declines this year. Former champions have fallen left and right, while proposed “prospects” have run into brick walls when making the leap to the big leagues. I suppose that’s the nature of the beast, as combat sports aren’t often associated with overtly lengthy reigns as “top dog”. The business is brutal, and it takes a toll on both the body and the mind. In fact, in regards to mixed martial arts, a successful 10 year career is a damn respectable accomplishment. Some manage to surpass that, while some strive but come up short. Here now, is a look at some of the most noteworthy career declines of 2011.

Strikeforce: Fedor versus Silva brought a major change to mixed martial arts. This change may have already occurred as the changing of the new
guard in MMA; however, the way that Fedor fell was deafening. The Last Emperor walked out of the cage with a swollen eye and his legacy in question.
Now, Strikeforce must recuperate as well. Without question the Heavyweight Grand Prix was formulated to get Fedor back into the cage against either Fabricio Werdum or Alistair Overeem. Now, that’s not happening. Strikeforce needs to regroup and push the individuals who are making waves for their company; such as Nick Diaz, Chad Griggs, and other names. Still, the organization seems intent on reaching back.

Different Types of Martial Arts
Pankration, the ancient full-contact fighting art, which became an Olympic sport in 648 BCE, is one of the world’s oldest martial arts. Mythology maintains that it was invented by Hercules
and Theseus, although it is more likely to have developed as a training method for Greek soldiers, who noted that, by combining boxing techniques and
groundwork as both sport and exercise, they could keep themselves battle-ready and still fight effectively should they lose their weapon during the heat of battle.
