Learning MMA

Here at The MMA Zone we get questions daily asking us about the new phenomina known as Mixed Martial Arts.  Today this is a commone term but take 20 years ago for instance and mixed and martial arts is an oxymoron like jumbo shrip.  Because martial arts is entrenched in historcial traditions each art is not very open to change and especially incorporating other teaching into their own.  So, what we have decided to do is have our own MMA 101 and go through the different facets of MMA.  Most MMA articles that cover the basics only hit on the UFC which is only a slice of what MMA really is..  Now that is a big slice but only one piece of the whole sport.  Please stay tuned for the MMA Basics 101 class we will post a new piece here every day for you about MMA so make sure you subscribe and we will let you know when there is a new piece.  Thanks again for your loyalty!

MMA concentrates on strikes and grappling techniques. Martial arts strikes use either a weapon or body part to execute an attack on an opponent. Mixed martial arts competitors use fist punches, leg and foot kicks, and head butts. Grappling involves gripping and controlling the opponent without the use of strikes. A variety of holds and choke holds are used during MMA competitions.
