Over the past 5 years it seems that the use of steroids by the fighters in the UFC & MMA has exploded in the news. Maybe this is because more fighters are actually using steroids or maybe it is the fact that MMA has grown so much in popularity that fans actually hear about it more often. Whichever the case steroid use has become a problem.
We all know ways to cut for a fight. Whether that is an easy way, hard way, as long as you weigh in at what you’re fighting at, that’s the ideal goal for fighting. Right? Not so much.
We’ve all seen fights where someone just doesn’t look like they’ve got anything strength-wise, and perhaps could be a result of that cut, and it usually is. I have a couple of suggestions to keep the weight off, while not compromising strength or your workouts, which probably go overlooked while cutting, and still getting you to weigh in right:
Always try to keep the high-glycemic carbs (sugars, breads, cereals) separate from the low-glycemic carbs. In fact, research is now suggesting that high-glycemic carbs while cutting is not the best route because it has been said to lower your blood sugar levels, resulting in quick depletion of glycogen (carbs in your muscles), making you tired – a lot faster.
The Department of Justice, federal agencies, faith-based and other grassroots and community organizations are always looking to instill crime prevention programs to address at-risk youth and gang members. While many of these programs have failed, many people in the mixed martial arts community believe they have the answer.
In a lower income area of Pomona, CA, Tim Kreitzman, a MMA fighter, opened a school to target young people who are drawn to gangs. Kreitzman’s MMA School teaches kids self-defense, discipline and the value of hard work. He also gives them a place to go instead of hanging on the corners, running the streets, selling drugs or getting into trouble.
“Lets be clear here about something. If you get into Mixed Martial Arts, then you know what toexpect. I couldn’t be anymore obvious and straight forward with that statement even if I had competedmyself… Oh, wait, I HAVE!”

MMA gambling lines (or odds) will also be sometimes known as money-lines. Your standard MMA line for any fight might look something similar to this example…
When many people look at mixed martial arts fighters they tend to think that these people make a living with their hands, knees, elbows, and feet because they are uneducated thugs or bar brawlers who can’t make a good living doing anything else – meaning any white collar type job or one that calls for a college degree. However, those same people would be very surprised to find out that many MMA fighters do have formal education under their championship belts. In the UFC, 70% of fighters have college degrees.
Some media outlets still paint a picture as mixed martial artists being nothing more than street fighters. It is a stereotype many fighters and MMA organizations are trying to change in order to gain more acceptance as a legitimate sport with real athletes.

Hendo versus Fedor Emerging
Negotiations have begun that will place Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Champion Dan Henderson in what some will consider a “dream” matchup against Fedor Emelianenko. After Saturday’s Diaz versus Daley card, Strikeforce executive Scott Coker, discussed that the bout may occur sometime this summer.
Emelianenko considered retirement after losing to Antonio Silva, while some experts suggested he should reinvent himself as a light heavyweight. This fight however will go down at an undetermined catch weight.
The ownership of a title is the goal of every MMA Fighter when they step into the cage. Competing for the love of the sport is one thing, but everyone wants to be on the top; to be known as the best. To reach that goal, each fighter must travel a path to the top. The fight to reach the number one contender’s slot is often as hard as winning the championship.
“I feel that every title contender should have to take a similar path before being considered the man or woman to challenge for the title. Without some sort of standard, promotions can find themselves in a place of trouble when they have multiple individuals who can claim to be the top contender for the title.”
