A potential opponent for the last World Extreme Cagefighting champion, Anthony Pettis, has been revealed by UFC President Dana White. That potential opponent is UFC lightweight and workman, Clay Guida.

More Fights Added to UFC 126

The Ultimate Fighting Championship has released information about five fights that have been added to the UFC 126: Silva versus Belfort card. The event is scheduled to occur on February 5th which coincides with the UFC’s effort to host an event during Super Bowl weekend. This year’s show will take place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Expansion of Mixed Martial Arts

When it comes to the mainstream sports world, mixed martial arts is still in its infant stage of growth. It’s easy to look back a few years ago to see that major sports outlets such as ESPN did not cover the events or big names such as Brock Lesnar or Chuck Liddell. Today, major cable companies carry not only events from the UFC, but Strikeforce, Bellator, and even smaller promotions. As we approach the end of 2010 one can only wonder what’s to come for MMA and its fans. As the sport continues to evolve, here are a few ideas as to what lies next for the fledging competition.

The UFC – WEC Merger

Write down the date of October 28, 2010 as the day the World Extreme Cagefighting organization was merged with its big brother, Ultimate Fighting Championship. In a conference call which was deemed a “major announcement” UFC President Dana White announced that the UFC would be expanding to include the bantamweight (135 pounds) and featherweight (145 pounds) weight classes. Along with that, the WEC’s lightweight class (155 pounds) will also be merged with the UFC’s lightweight class. As all announcements, the UFC-WEC merger is going to have its fans and opponents. Either way, this is an interesting direction that Zuffa is taking the combat sports game.

The world of Mixed Martial Arts and more specifically the UFC absolutely dominates the world of fastest growing sports in the world. The last couple fo years has seen a decrease in the rate of growth but it is still growing at an exponential rate. It’s continued rise in popularity certainly means bright opportunities for those investing in the MMA business in one form or another. The business that incorporate the MMA market are comprised of business like supplements, apparel (like MMA Shorts), training gear, venues, and one of the most popular workout and training MMA gyms. Even the business mogul Donald Trump has dipped his toes into the MMA business through Affliction Banned. But perhaps the most popular dream for most martial arts practitioners has always been to open their own school, training facility, or MMA gym.
