What Are The Costs To Start Taekwondo?

Getting started in Taekwondo could prove to be a little more expensive than other arts that require little more than a uniform. With TKD, you will need to purchase a Taekwondo uniform ($40 – $90 on average) along with head gear, hand protection, foot pads, chest protection, and groin protection.

This may drive costs up quite a bit as you would be looking at around $200 to purchase the best of the best in terms of protective equipment.

Why does Taekwondo have different colored belts?

Taekwondo belts and their color aren’t just a random assortment of colors to look pretty, but are actually quite functional  They are used to separate the ranks in this dynamic discipline.  In Taekwondo, each belt color has a meaning which lets students themselves along with other students recognizing their development and growing knowledge.

The colors of the belts as they characterize the advancement of rank, in addition to the growth of the student.  It normally takes a beginning student a great length of time to attain the ultimate black belt everyone sets out to get.  However, with hard work and determination anyone can achieve this level of skill and development.

How To Choose The Right Martial Art For You

There is no ‘one size fits all’ martial art. It is great to learn something from a variety of styles, but at the end of the day you should choose a style that really fits your fighting skills, talents and that you will enjoy practicing day in and day out for the rest of your life. Something you can really master and excel at. So how do you know which martial art is best for you?

Martial arts can mainly be separated in two ways, although they are similar. The first choice is between fighting styles that are either mainly based on stand up or ground fighting. Dividing styles like Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Karate. Then you have choices as to the level of intensity that suites you. These divide between those martial arts that involve full contact brutal exchanges of blows and those that are designed more a sport or art and are not meant to inflict serious damage on your opponent. Tae Kwon Do is probably one of the most well known and widely practiced

martial arts throughout the world, which is actually surprising considering it originates from the tiny country of Korea. Tae Kwon Do is best known for it’s spectacular kicks, board breaking feats and complex and impressive form patterns. These forms are not only great for getting in shape but are also used in inspiring demonstrations and competitions. Tae Kwon Do form competitions are held on regional, national and international levels. Pretty much anyone can learn Tae Kwon Do forms with the right level of dedication and good instruction. However truly mastering these forms and impressing the judges enough to stand out and win a trophy is an art. Check out the following tips for making sure you come out a winner at the next event! These can basically be broken down into 3 categories:

1. Technique
Of course judging is supposed to be based on technique and execution of your Tae Kwon Do form. But this is not the only factor that can sway the judge’s mind. Still learn your form inside and out. Practice it backwards, forwards and in every direction possible as well as in different locations so that you will be totally comfortable at the competition in new surroundings. Make sure you get your instructors individual attention and guidance of performing each technique to perfection, especially the stances.
